I was shocked to be asked about the artwork I create for my releases recently (I hesitate from calling 'artwork', which suggests its 'work' created by an 'artist' as opposed to by me who is some dude in his jocks with a computer and too much internet allocation). I was thrilled, I have to say, that the questions were positive and even appreciative of what I'd done. But horrified to be asked to describe where it came from, or how it was created.

Where I can wax widely lyrical about music and audio production, and feel like I come from some position of experience, I won't insult any actual visual artists out there by trying to sound knowledgeable about art. I am a proverbial chimpanzee slapping at a colourful box until a banana plops out, at which time I think (with my little chimpanzee brain), “I don't know how that banana just happened to plop out of that box, but I like bananas so I'll just accept that it happened and try hitting the box again to see if another banana might plop into existence”.

I can say though, that I decided on the visual style through the basic construction of my pseudonym. The name 'Fronz Arp' is a derivation of two visual artists I love, Franz Kline and Jean Arp, both of whom are abstract 'collage' artists. They're work inspired the screen-print-like direction of the CD inlays on my 2011 album WHAT STRANGE MACHINES, a style that I continued for the TINY CROOKED ORCHESTRA project. The notable exception to this is the artwork for my 3rd song FIRE. It's a piece by my friend, Sydney-based artsist, photographer and cinematographer, Steve Munro. He's is an ACTUAL artist whose website you should pay a visit to and who's other artworks you should pay him ACTUAL money to attain.

This weeks song is called SEX WITH STRANGERS and that's kind of funny. I hated the music until I thought of the lyric 'Sex with Strangers' and then I didn't hate it anymore. And then a song plopped into existence and this chimpanzee was a happy little banana eater.

Fronz Arp Brisbane, Australia

The strange machine which is Fronz Arp grinds like a tattered, angry little hurdy gurdy. With dramatic jaunt and seesawing melodies that have been compared to weird-pop wonders, such as David Bowie and Tom Waits
